        Sunday ride  UPDATE  May 5th

Great turnout again for the May 5th 2013 ride - with 210 riders counted @ the CYCLONE COASTER ride - I rode the "Shelby of the Month" a 1937 Shelby Airflo in Original Wheat with Blue accents & Red pinstripes ( Pictured above ) - The weather was overcast with a 30% chance of rain - which didn't scare to many away & the rain itself NEVER happened -

Park announcements were made for the Bikefest in Long Beach NEXT SATURDAY May 11th where CYCLONE COASTER was asked to host the 1st annual Vintage Bicycle Fest Show that has 11 categories in which you can enter your bicycles in for $5.- a category ( see category details under upcoming events section & all the proceeds go back to the city of Long Beach bicycle programs ) - Also Janine announced here upcoming Hawaiian themed Birthday bash & all were invited to come to that on June 8th which is the Saturday after next months CYCLONE COASTER Sunday ride - After the Park announcements we rode using the City of Long Beach bicycle paths to Vista Avenue then up & around Belmont Shores before we transitioned onto the beach path with our usual Pier stop & then to the lighthouse - If you wanted to see loads of pictures of our rides join facebook & become a friend of CYCLONE COASTER since thats where everyone seems to post them as they are riding - From there Bernard headed the group back to our starting point - Another great ride thanks to everyone -- Thanks again to everyone who made it out for the CYCLONE COASTER Sunday ride - RIDE VINTAGE

NOW AVAILABLE - The brand new 2013 CYCLONE COASTER silk screened T-shirts in BLACK with the red & ivory logo this time for the mens & dark heather grey with a PINK logo for the ladies both colors have the new 2013 "RIDE VINTAGE - Long Beach - CA" with wings on the outside on the back for a updated design front & back that reflects the website logo along with the BRAND NEW DESIGN embroidered BASEBALL CAPS & SUN VISORS with a skip-tooth cog logo & our BRAND NEW iron-on SKIP-TOOTHED PATCHES ( Same logo as on the baseball caps & sun visors - but larger ) - ALL ITEMS ARE AVAILABLE @ EVERY RIDE - JUST ASK -

FYI CYCLONE COASTER always encourages everyone to share & inform other CYCLONE COASTER riders of upcoming events in their own neck of the woods - If you have something coming up just simply ask Bernard or myself BEFORE THE RIDE that you want to announce something - This ride has a large following at this point & riders join us from San Diego to Northern California & beyond - We also know there might be some other CYCLONE COASTER riders that may live close to your own towns events that may want to meet up with you for it - that's why we have a "open mic" for anyone who wants to come up - Many riders never knew they were neighbors until they do an announcement - that's what is great about this ride - ride vintage -

PICTURES -- I know everyone takes them - If anyone has any pictures that they would like to share from our rides - PLEASE POST THEM - I encourage you to share them on the on-line forums like - theCabe - SchwinnBikeForum - Rat Rod Bikes - Facebook - etc. -- I always have requests for pictures of what shows up @ the CYCLONE COASTER Sunday ride - but I can only take so many myself - Let's show everyone around the world what they're missing by not being here @ the CYCLONE COASTER Sunday rides

With a GREAT TURNOUT - comes a greater responsibility - I must ask EVERYONE to PLEASE keep to the right of the road & not to take up the whole road as we ride - We have never had a issue with the Police in Long Beach since we started this ride in 2006 - Never even a complaint - this is achieved by keeping within the bike lane & / or the right side of the road whenever possible ( 2 riders wide is ideal ) - by doing this it makes the road safer for our riders @ the CYCLONE COASTER Sunday ride - trust me you don't want to be on the receiving end of another vehicle ( I am still recovering myself from my Harley accident from July 2011 & I am told it will be at least another year to go before I am back to where I was before the accident - SO PLEASE BE SAFE OUT THERE ) - we look forward to seeing everyone again for next months ride - make sure you come out & join us @ the CYCLONE COASTER Sunday ride - RIDE VINTAGE -

                                 Sunday Ride Details

Frank & Bernard realized early on that CYCLONE COASTER was generating quite a bit of interest simply while riding their vintage bicycles in & around Southern California & talking to fellow riders along the way - Seeing all of the interest that was out there - we decided that it would be better to set up one day a month for a vintage bicycle ride that has been dubbed - the CYCLONE COASTER Sunday Ride - The CYCLONE COASTER Sunday Ride is a leisure bicycle ride that averages around 2 hours long - the ride is ALWAYS held the first Sunday of every month & ALWAYS from the same starting point every month - PORTFOLIO COFFEEHOUSE - which is conveniently located on the corner of 4th Street & Junipero - in the city of Long Beach - rain or shine - Riders Meet & Greet @ 9:30am & LEAVE @ 10:30am SHARP - If you are late we will leave without you !!! - We follow the ride with a casual lunch @ a local eatery for those who want to stick around - The CYCLONE COASTER Sunday Ride is a family oriented ride - not a bar hop - it's an open invitation for people from 5 to 105 years of age to join us on a vintage bicycle ride along the beach paths in & around the city of Long Beach & other special events that we post here on this website - Rain or Shine - All are welcome to join in on the CYCLONE COASTER Sunday Ride with any type of bicycle & any riding level - for a low key vintage bicycle ride where everyone can enjoy fellow enthusiast for networking - swapping stories - swap bicycles & parts - share maintenance & knowledge while enjoying the great Southern California scenery & all year around weather - Since the CYCLONE COASTER Sunday Ride is never the same ride twice & changes as we ride - It is impossible to post our route on this website - We base our ride on the events in & around Long Beach where the ride originates - We never have a set route as the ride can change as we are riding - from an unforeseen problem such as a simple flat tire or other bicycle related problem - to a local event in progress - Keep in mind that many riders such as myself travel over an hour just to join us here for the ride every month - So please allow enough time to get here on time when traveling to join us - To be fair to all the riders please remember that the ride leaves Portfolio Coffeehouse at 10:30am SHARP - Thanks for all of the interest in the CYCLONE COASTER Sunday RIde & we'll see you on the next ride

CYCLONE COASTER RIDE ANNOUNCEMENTS

[1] CYCLONE COASTER has received NUMEROUS complaints about MUSIC BEING TOO LOUD on our rides in the past - Many riders join the CYCLONE COASTER Sunday ride to get away from the noise of everyday life & just to simply enjoy a nice bicycle ride where they can talk to one another while riding or just to take in the scenery along the way have also expressed a dislike to the music as well - To keep everyone happy CYCLONE COASTER would like to ELIMINATE music on the rides & If you do have music CYCLONE COASTER just is asking for you TO PLEASE NOT TO BRING IT TO OUR RIDES so that CYCLONE COASTER riders are not discouraged from our rides & that the Sunday ride is NOT a NUISANCE to the community & businesses in the City of Long Beach who have supported & embraced the CYCLONE COASTER Sunday Ride since it start back in 2006

[2] CYCLONE COASTER would also like to ask everyone to ALWAYS KEEP SAFETY IN MIND when riding on the streets & bicycle paths for all riders ANYWHERE in the state of California - PLEASE REMEMBER that bicycles fall under the same traffic laws as ANY vehicle on the road we all share - PLEASE REMEMBER to stop at all stop signs & not to run red lights - FYI - BICYCLE TRAFFIC VIOLATIONS WILL GO ON YOUR PERMANENT DRIVING RECORD - PLEASE REMEMBER to stay in the MARKED bicycle lanes - OR - to the far right side of the road with 2 or 3 bicycles wide to not block cars from driving by us on the streets & PLEASE REMEMBER to try to keep it 2 wide on the beach path for oncoming bicycles & people that walk - jog - run - rollerblade - etc - with us in the areas we SHARE on our CYCLONE COASTER rides - In short - CYCLONE COASTER simply does not want to wear out our welcome here or anywhere for that matter - CYCLONE COASTER has a great casual ride for all ages to enjoy the first Sunday of every month where over the years thousands of riders have joined in on the vintage bicycle fun in the many rides & events we take part in every year - let's keep it going by being in tune with our fellow "Sunday Riders" & the local community in & around the City of Long Beach - the home of the CYCLONE COASTER Sunday Ride MEETING POINT IS Portfolio Coffeehouse - Located on - the Corner of 4th Street & Junipero

 THE

       CYCLONE COASTER

            FREE SWAPMEET & SUNDAY RIDE

SWAPMEET & RIDE ON THE SAME DAY

Sunday April 7th 2013

10th Annual   CYCLONE COASTER   free SWAP-MEET   UPDATE

It's hard to believe - but now our 10th annual  CYCLONE COASTER FREE Swap Meet has come & gone - We decided to have it on the SAME DAY as the CYCLONE COASTER Sunday Ride - Sunday April 7th 2013 - The CYCLONE COASTER Sunday ride & swap-meet worked out so well @ the last year - we thought we'd do it again

The CYCLONE COASTER Free Swapmeet was from 7:00am - 10:30am & man was it packed - This was definitely our LARGEST swap-meet to date - Loads of great stuff to buy & plenty of great items were sold from what I hear - The early settlers @ the CYCLONE COASTER free swap-meet were in force today - With lots of great hard to find items exchanging hands BEFORE the swap-meet even began - A sea of people showing up to see what they needed the whole swap-meet - Our many thanks goes out to Chris of the PIKE Restaurant & Bar for having us & opening up EARLY for us & serving the most important meal of the day - THE BREAKFAST BURRITO - which I didn't have a chance to get until 10:45am - but man did it hit the spot - the PIKE Restaurant & Bar also offers a full breakfast menu - coffee & cocktails -

A big thank you also goes out to everyone who made it out for the 10th annual CYCLONE COASTER free Swap-meet & making it a big success again - also for keeping the alley & street clear around the swap-meet which will allow us to do this for FREE for many years to come - Again this event & ride was a win win for everyone - FREE space is limited to first come - first to get a space - FREE admission to all too - Just use that money you saved on the space & admission to find the final pieces to your pre or post war balloon bicycle project - OR - find yourself another bicycle or project to buy or sell - this is a great way to support the hobby & keep it alive & local - Keep in mind that old saying "one mans trash is another mans treasure" & "the early bird gets the worm" - well I added that one since there are a lot of deals being made between the "early settlers" ( you know who you are ) @ the CYCLONE COASTER free Swap-meets every year  -

The 10th annual CYCLONE COASTER FREE SWAP-MEET was be followed by our CYCLONE COASTER Sunday ride which started from PORTFOLIO COFFEEHOUSE @ 11:00am - after we packed it up -

Please keep in mind that all CYCLONE COASTER events are always posted here on our website - on our CYCLONE COASTER facebook account under "status"  as in got closer to the event date & on-line on theCabe.com under "events" - thanks for the interest - Ride Vintage

FUTURE SWAPMEETS

The 10th Annual CYCLONE COASTER FREE SWAPMEET - worked out great on the same day as our ride once again & was our biggest & busiest FREE Swapmeet to date - SO - ALL future CYCLONE COASTER FREE Swapmeets will be on the SAME MORNING as our rides - some people don't have the luxery of having two weekends free to join us in the month - So if we have it all on the same day we can do both events - rather than having to choose one or the other - So EVERY 6 months or so on the day of our CYCLONE COASTER Sunday rides we will have the FREE swapmeet earlier THAT SAME DAY - THE CYCLONE COASTER FREE ANNUAL SWAPMEET DATE WILL STILL BE POSTED HERE ON OUR WEBSITE AS THE SWAPMEET GETS CLOSER SO CHECK BACK HERE - the usual simple rules apply NO PARKING in The PIKE Restuarant & Bar parking lot OR the Alley behind the parking lot - VIOLATORS WILL BE TOWED - People show up as early as 5:30 to 6am in the past - SPACE IS LIMITED - so get here EARLY - For those who don't know where The PIKE Restuarant & Bar is - it's located @ 1836 East 4th Street on the corner of 4th Street & Hermosa ( 2 blocks west up 4th street from where our ride starts every month ) - RIDE VINTAGE

      LAGUNA NIGUEL
               2012  Christmas  Parade

LAGUNA NIGUEL HOLIDAY PARADE

ENTRY # 55

Thanks again to everyone that made it out to join CYCLONE COASTER in yet another great Holiday parade as part of the 2012 LAGUNA NIGUEL CHRISTMAS PARADE again this year - This has been our 5th time in this parade & it is always a good time with the hometown parade feel with spectators of all ages lining Crown Valley Parkway - My parents were also on the side lines cheering us on as we passed by & also due to the great organization of the parade itself every year thanks to Audrey Miller & her crew of volunteers in Laguna Niguel who work hard to make it a memorable parade for all to see & be a part of each & every year -

For those who have never been in a parade with CYCLONE COASTER this parade is one of the best & if you missed it this year make sure to mark it on calenders for next holiday season - Local Television COX communications will be broadcasting the parade & you can find the air times on the City of Laguna Niguel website - click on the link below - We usually have around 30-50 riders join us for the parades & this time we had 36 riders join in the fun - the parking in the TGI Fridays parking lot on the corner of Crown Valley Parkway & Greenfield worked out perfect as usual since early morning parking is no issue there

AFTER THE PARADE - I would guess that more than half of us debreifed & had our lunch @ Knowlwoods fine burgers - sandwiches - fries & shakes in a vintage farmhouse atmosphere - where prices are under $10.- for lunch on average

ON A FINAL NOTE FOR 2012

Thanks again goes out to everyone for a great final CYCLONE COASTER event for the 2012 season - We look forward to what the 2013 season brings to CYCLONE COASTER with our next meet up ride @ the 2013 Pasadena Tournament of Roses Parade early morning meet up & ride on Tuesday January 1st New Years Day - a few of us do this EVERY YEAR where we meet up EARLY ( 6:30 - 7:00am ) & we ride the actual parade route BEFORE the parade runs by - we hang around for a bit & watch some of the parade - EAT - then we go off & ride someplace new in the area - ANYONE is welcome to join us as in all events - but PLEASE ride a vintage bicycle & represent vintage American made bicycles - This is a pick up ride & I will more than likely post this pick up ride on thecabe website under the "swapmeet & events" section as it gets closer ( a week or so before the event ) & on our facebook page -

Hold on that was last weekend - ALL JOKING ASIDE - The BEER GARDEN is full of great people & bicycle friendly events throughout the day with ALL THE PROCEEDS BEING DONATED TO THE BICYCLE PROGRAMS IN THE CITY THEY ARE IN - How cool is that - Fort Collins had over 20,000 people in the parade itself - I have been @ the Los Angeles & San Diego events since they started them here a few years ago

This year I decided to branch out a little & take the trek up to San Francisco so we can meet up with our friends the Rolling Relics up there - lets get out there & have some bicycle fun - Let me know if you are going & we will see you there on our crusty original BALLOON BICYCLES enjoying the day - Meet us out there on your original Balloon Bicycles for all to admire -- RIDE VINTAGE --

EVENT UPDATE - LOS ANGELES

TOUR de FAT - LOS ANGELES - SATURDAY - September 15th

We had the hottest day of the year in Los Angeles - 109 degrees & BEER @ Tour de Fat in Los Angeles 2012 - The high temps made you drink your beer really fast - or faster than usual for some of us - HOT HOT day made it tough on everyone - I was ready to get out a hot mitt to touch my Silverking frame - lucky I had a nice leather seat & grips so I could ride it with comfort CYCLONE COASTER had a GOOD SHOWING of riders with it being so close to us in Long Beach with a dozen or more making it out to join in the fun - The slow ride event was what I stuck around for to try to win the belt & challange once again - Well a few of us tried to get the win with Bernard being the only one to win his round & a chance to win the title in the final race - WELL Bernard had tough competition for the final slow ride race & didn't get the title - WELL it looks like we will have to try again in San Francisco & San Diego this year - A great time for everyone who made it out for the day where I had to leave early for other commitments & the others met up for a good lunch before they went back to enjoy the beer & heat of the day @ Tour de Fat Los Angeles - See everyone there next year WE WILL SEE EVERYONE @ Tour de Fat SAN FRANCISCO next weekend SEPTEMBER 22nd - RIDE VINTAGE

EVENT UPDATE - SAN FRANCISCO

TOUR de FAT - SAN FRANCISCO - SATURDAY - September 22nd

We had PERFECT WEATHER again in San Francisco - 72 degrees & SUNNY @ Tour de Fat in San Francisco 2012 - I am beginning to think the weather up North in the bay area is ALWAYS that nice & they just don't like to advertise it for fear of being over crowded or something - LOL - Great day for everyone with 2000 to 3000 bicycles in the parade that went down & around Golden Gate Park which is the perfect place to ride when you are up here & I was told 10,000 people attending the beer garden itself from my New Belgium insider - One of the coolest things I have seen in a while was this group from the area that had called their cycling show the "Whiskey Drome" - These guys had made a what looked like a "wall of death" that you see motocycles ride in @ a Circus or dare devel show out of a bunch of 2 x 4 planks & some high tension wire - it made what looked like a half of a whiskey barrel that was probably 20+ feet in diameter & angled outword to where the "wall" was 6 feet tall - which was ridden by some guys that called themeselves the "Whiskeydrunk Cycles" - Really skilled riders that at times all 4 riders would be riding it @ once - sometimes in opposite directions - Crazy cool - I was there first appearance @ Tour de Fat & the only location was up there in San Francisco since they are from the area is what I was told - I hope they make it out to more of the tour next year !!!!! CYCLONE COASTER had a few riders including myself make it up the California coast from Orange County for the day for this event which DID NOT disappoint - I MISSED The slow ride event up here with so many people - events & entertainment going on with 2 stages non-stop & BEER - Well there is always San Diego NEXT Saturday September 29th - It was great to see Slick & Karla & the kids along with Island Schwinn & a few others of the Rolling Relics that really had a good first experience at Tour de Fat with us - thanks for meeting up with us at the event - A great time for everyone who made it out for the PERFECT San Francisco day @ Tour de Fat - See everyone there next year

Another HOT day - I would have to guess it was in the 90's & SUNNY @ Tour de Fat in San Diego 2012 held in Balboa Park - Perfect beer drinking weather HOT with plenty of huge trees providing shade for the large crowds that attended this year - This was the biggest turnout we have seen @ Tour de Fat in San Diego - This is the largest parade turnout I have seen in San Diego with close to the 2 - 3000 bicycles we saw in San Francisco last week - The parade route started in Balboa Park & then headed into the adjoining neighborhood on the edge of the park going up a couple of small inclines & down through a old town business district & back up & down a couple hills you could get some real speed on before heading back into the park to the New Belgium Beer Garden - I am looking forward to next year already CYCLONE COASTER had a few riders including myself - John & Scott doing what we dubbed the "Tour de California" since we attended all three Tour de Fats in California this year - I carpooled down with Marty & ran into & met up with others from the CYCLONE COASTER rides - Fellow riders like Scott - Martin - Dave - Abe - Melissa - Jamie - Rebecca ( Happy Birthday ) - John & his wife - Cliff & his wife - Junior & some of the Choppaderos to mention a few - I would have to say San Diego is still my favorite location of all the Tour de Fats we've attended - it's held @ Balboa Park which is freeway close off the 5 freeway next to the San Diego zoo & even when it is hot like today it still gets a slight ocean breeze cooling us down - there are also more vintage bicycles @ this location than there were @ Los Angeles & San Francisco combined - I tried the " Slow Ride Event " again here - but only Abe won his heat & moved on to the finals - A great time for everyone who made it out for the Tour de Fat in San Diego - See everyone there next year SEE EVERYONE next weekend @ the Long Beach Marathon ( 6am ) - or - The CYCLONE COASTER Sunday ride ( 11am ) - or - CycLAvia ( 1pm ) - which are ALL on OCTOBER 7th - a busy busy day - RIDE VINTAGE

CYCLONE COASTER has won yet another award this year from the judges of the 2012 City of Lake Forest 4th of July Parade this year - CONGRATULATIONS EVERYONE WHO ENJOYED THE DAY WITH CYCLONE COASTER - We won it this time for "Best Vehicle Award" - I would have to say we must have really impressed them since there were a few clubs with custom cars & hot rods there this year - I translated it to "Best Transportation Award" which I gladly accepted on the behalf of everyone for CYCLONE COASTER @ the award ceremony on August 7th @ Lake Forest City Hall where there were 100 plus people - Good job everyone - "They liked us .... they really liked us" Thank you to the City of Lake Forest & our CYCLONE COASTER riders who made it out for another great event - I always enjoy seeing the effort that everyone puts into their bicycles & themselves @ the parades - CYCLONE COASTER was represented well with around 60 decorated vintage bicycles & their owners making it out for this FREE event with the City of Lake Forest in their 21st annual 4th of July Parade for 2012 - CYCLONE COASTER was represented well with riders from as far South as San Diego to the Inland Empire & as far North as Venice Beach areas joining in for the parade fun this time - some were first timers in a parade & many have joined CYCLONE COASTER before & from what I could see everyone had a good time that they cant wait for the next one - On a side note - It was an honor to have my parents join in the parade magic with CYCLONE COASTER this year on their matching pair 1941 BF Goodrich Schwinns all decorated up for the 4th of July - They are celebrating their 50 Anniversary this year & enjoying their health & each other every day & with events like this keeping them young at heart - The Southern California weather was a comfortable low 70's with a marine layer of cloud cover keeping us much cooler than previous years @ this event - This was a welcome change from last years almost 100 degree sunny weather - which is tough when you're rolling slow in a parade - The parade coverage of CYCLONE COASTER can be found on local channel 3 COX Communications - so check your local listings for air dates - WE ARE ENTRY #54 this year - This Parade has been a lot of fun over the years with loads of local spectators cheering us on along the sidelines of the parade route - After the parade a lot of us meet up @ Fuddruckers for some killer burgers & to reflect on the parade & our upcoming bicycle projects - I look forward to this FREE event with the City of Lake Forest again next year - If you have any pics of the event you can email them to me or post them & share them with the people who couldn't make it out on thecabe or tag us on your facebook page for everyone to see - RIDE VINTAGE - Frank

                                                      Our Story

Living in Southern California is the perfect place to ride and collect vintage bicycles - we found this out by simply riding our vintage balloon bicycles at the beach - swap meets - marathons - parades - car shows - wherever & whenever we could meet up for a vintage bicycle ride on any given weekend - while doing just that we found there are quite a few vintage bicycle collectors that live right here in the area that enjoyed riding as well - CYCLONE COASTER was founded in Southern California in 2006 by two friends & vintage bicycle enthusiasts - Bernard & Frank - who met while collecting & riding vintage balloon bicycles themselves - GREAT AMERICAN BICYCLES - manufactured in the Pre-War & Post-War era of America - bearing names such as - Colson - Columbia - Dayton - Elgin - Firestone - Harley Davidson - Hawthorne - Hiawatha - Huffman - Indian - Iver Johnson - J C Higgins - Manton & Smith - Mead - Mercury - Monark - Pierce - Roadmaster - Rollfast - Schwinn - Shelby - Western Flyer - just to name a few - made right here in the good old U S A -

The name CYCLONE COASTER pays tribute to the Pike waterfront amusement park which was down on the pier in Long Beach, California, many, many years ago - The COASTER part of our name is referring to the single speed coaster brake on the vintage bicycles we ride - We collect bicycles from different eras and every bicycle we ride is one we own - If you are interested in purchasing a vintage bicycle - have a budget in mind & find a picture that best represents what you are looking for - keep in mind usually the more deluxe or complete a vintage bicycle is ( it has a horn tank, fenders, light, rear rack, etc. ) the more expensive & difficult it is to find as a complete bicycle - Simply locate one of the "CONTACT US" links on the site & we will do our best to help & direct you in any way we can - there might even be something close amongst our network of CYCLONE COASTER riders

We find ourselves riding just about anything built in the 1930's - 1940's - to 1950's - from the clean originals - the old rusty rider - the custom boardwalk runner - to the top-notch restored bicycles & anything in between - as with any hobby it seems the more you know - the more questions you have - we also noticed that there is a lot of diversity to riding and collecting vintage bicycles - a lot of times because the bicycles themselves have had a rough life - mostly from being passed down from one person to the next or just sitting forgotten in a barn or a shed somewhere - most of the time losing some of their original parts and former glory along the way - also that everyone has their own take - which is how it should be - after all it is an extension of who you are and what you are about - all in all it is a lot of fun networking with a lot of great people who we all met because of our similar hobby & passion for vintage bicycles at these events as well as riding in & around the Southern California area
